Timbo Mullum is a relaxed café tucked away in Mullumbimby that has become a reliable spot for locals and visitors seeking robust coffee and a lunchtime escape with a twist. The atmosphere here leans into an easygoing, almost tucked-away vibe, making it a pleasant stop for those who appreciate good quality in a quiet setting rather than hustle and bustle.

Coffee lovers will find a particular draw to the carefully brewed offerings, with locals often stopping by for a well-made long black or a double shot latte. The quality of the coffee is frequently noted, holding its own against the best brews in town. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over a cup while catching up with friends or getting a small work session done.

The menu at Timbo Mullum adds an intriguing layer, standing out through its infusion of diverse flavors. Lunch options like the crispy pork belly lunch bun — layered with cucumber, mint, pickled carrots, and their housemade hoisin and Kewpie mayo — offer a comforting yet vibrant bite. For those leaning towards lighter or plant-based choices, the housemade tempeh lunch bun with vegan aioli provides a satisfying alternative. Seafood doesn’t disappoint either, with dishes like the seafood and miso udon bowl offering fresh calamari, baby octopus tentacles, and prawns in a rich miso broth that hits just the right savory note.

Empty seats are often found on weekday mornings or just past the midday rush, making those quieter times ideal for visitors who want to enjoy the calm atmosphere or have a bite without lingering crowds. On weekends or busier days, the café hums with the friendly buzz of regulars and newcomers drawn in by the quality and the varied menu.

One thing that stands out beyond the food and drinks is the friendliness visible in the staff and ownership — local patrons appreciate the welcoming, relaxed environment that encourages casual lingering or quick coffee fixes. While slightly off the beaten path, this tends to add to its charm, allowing for a genuine Mullumbimby experience away from more commercial spots.

I recently visited a Tombo and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their coffee—rich, smooth, and a perfect complement to the meal. The highlight for me, though, was the braised Bangalow pork belly rice. The pork belly was tender, flavorful, and beautifully braised, with just the right balance. This dish is a must-try if you're looking for something hearty and authentic. Overall, a great dining experience with excellent coffee to top it off.

Was recommended this place by my son and it certainly met his glowing recommendation. The Allpress coffee is superb. I would've liked to try the highly recommended Congee bowl, but I was too late. Fortunately I tried the Seafood and Miso udon bowl and it was sensational. Fresh calamari, baby octopus tentacles and prawns that were all cooked to perfection in a delicious miso broth topped with abundant sesame seeds and a tasty oil. Little bits of what I think were tempura batter added a delightful crunch. Even though it was a cold and rainy day I chose to sit outside, but I could have chosen a table inside at counter level or one in the mezzanine. Really friendly service and my bowl was served by a Japanese chef, who also makes the noddles onsite.

Happened upon this gem of a place in mullumbimby. Serving a multitude of food inspired/ based from different country all bursting with rich flavors. Love the homemade tempeh burger and lagman (Russian stew) and dumplings. All of em were scrumptious

Seriously excellent coffee. One of the best-made, tastiest, and perfectly brewed long blacks I’ve had in a long time. Twice in the space of a few days I’ve enjoyed the coffee and the friendly, welcoming vibe.

Great food, great coffee, chilled environment. Timbo is a hoot and one hard working owner. A little out of the way but that's exactly what the locals and visitors want. Get on down!

So in love with this restaurant. Food is Amazing!! This was my second time visiting Tombo and it couldn't go any better. This time unfortunately I couldn't eat the food I wanted for healthy problems, but the gorgeous girl at the till was so sweet and told me what I could eat with a beautiful smile. I definitely recommend Tombo if you want a different and delicious brunch or lunch for your day, you won't regret it. For me this Japanese restaurant is a 11/10, seriously!! Their udon is the best I have ever had. They will always surprise you, as they change menu every week if I'm not wrong. The pictures are not the best this time but trust me you will love the food!! Thank you Tombo team!!! I'll see you soon

I had Tombo bowl and prawn udon. Full of fresh fried tempura prawn with hand made the best udon noodle in Byron shire ever. Tombo bowl with home made sauce, fresh vegi and cooked freshest salmon. I think they use only the best fresh quality ingredients for foods. Their coffee always rich and thick the best as well. Staffs are also the best, very friendly, thoughtful and care the guest. Definitely must visit.
